The Minister of Health, Dr Manto Tshabalala-Msimang calls on national Non
Governmental Organisations working in the field of HIV, AIDS and TB to urgently
apply for funding that has been made available by the Department of Health.
NGOs are considered to be national entities if they provide a service in
three or more provinces and the closing date for applications is 18 January
2007.
The budget allocated for NGO funding has been increased from R56 million in
2006/2007 to R62 million in 2007/2008 financial year.
"Every year, we are increasing the funding of the many NGOs that are
assisting government in implementing a comprehensive response to HIV and AIDS
and TB in the country. We hope that this year's allocation will enable our
programmes to reach even more people in need of care and reduce the number of
new infections," said Minister Tshabalala-Msimang.
The funds will be made available to eligible organisations providing the
following services:
* Prevention Interventions including Voluntary Counseling and Testing,
Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV, Youth Life Skills & High
Transmission Areas Interventions
* Community Mobilisation for AIDS competence including Home-Based Care
* Support for People Living with HIV and AIDS
* Treatment Adherence Counselling including TB Directly Observed
Treatment
* Governance and Leadership Development.
Applicants must be seeking to implement priority areas of the National
Strategic Plan of 2007-2011 and Comprehensive HIV and AIDS Care, Management and
Treatment Plan.
They must be registered as a non-profit organisation and have a constitution
and a functioning governing board. They are required to submit a copy of
financial policy signed by the Board. Demonstration of a good track record in
HIV, AIDS and TB service delivery will be a recommendation.
Applicants will have to fill in application forms which are obtainable from
provincial and national Department of Health offices or on: http://www.doh.gov.za/docs/proposal-f.html
The forms should be accompanied by a business plan detailing schematic plan
and budget for funds requested and details of other sources of funding.
Applicants should also submit letters of recommendation from the HIV and
AIDS programme managers within their respective provinces where the NGO is
operating.
