The Department of Health will be holding a consultative forum meeting on
Thursday, 2 March 2006, in Johannesburg to review South Africa's progress in
responding to HIV and AIDS as part of finalising the country's report to the
United Nations (UN) in the matter.
All UN member states, including South Africa, have adopted a declaration of
commitment on HIV and AIDS in 2001. Various role-players including civil
society and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working on HIV and AIDS have
been invited to the meeting.
The report that will be under discussion will form part of the broader UN
global report on HIV and AIDS which will be deliberated on at the next UN
General Assembly in May.
