30 October 2006
The Department of Health will tomorrow officially announce the new
dispensing fee that can be charged by pharmacists on medicine, in line with the
ruling of the Constitutional Court.
This is after a lengthy process of consultation with the stakeholders to
review the current dispensing fee of 26 percent, up to the maximum of R26,
which was declared invalid by the Constitutional Court on 30 September
2005.
The press conference seeks to inform the public, through the media, of the
decisions of the Pricing Committee and the implications it would have on the
general public.
The media is invited to the press conference as follows:
Date: Tuesday, 31 October 2006
Time: 14h00
Venue: Gallagher Estates, Midrand
Notes to editors:
The press conference will be held after a technical briefing to the
stakeholders to inform them of the process applied by the Pricing Committee in
arriving at the new dispensing fee, annual increase and the international
benchmarking of medicine prices in South Africa.
This session is not open to the media. Copies of presentations to the
stakeholders will be made available to the media during the press
conference.
