MEC Yawa

20 February 2006

North West Public Works MEC, Honourable Howard Yawa, says SMME development
is key to the achievement of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE).
MEC Yawa said this today on conclusion of project site visits to Maboloka
Traditional Council Offices and Community Hall Building Project outside Brits
and the Moses Kotane Hospital revitalisation project in Ledig near Sun
City.

Commenting on the training of 12 local SMMEs involved in the R3 million
Maboloka Traditional Offices and Community Hall Project, MEC Yawa said, "The
model of the skills development and empowerment initiative used in this
specific project is phenomenal."

The Project has thus far created 173 job and training opportunities for
unemployed and unskilled locals. Six women SMME contractors and six male SMME
contractors are receiving on-site training in construction management,
financial management, reading drawings and completion of bill of quantities and
tendering.

According to the professional team, the construction of 39 staff housing
units, which are part of the new 200 bed Moses Kotane District Hospital under
construction, is five months ahead of schedule and the R200 million hospital
building project has thus far created close to 500 job opportunities.

Kgosi David Lion of the Bataung Traditional Council expressed his Council's
appreciation of the Maboloka Traditional Council Offices and Community Hall
Building Project. He said that no government has shown respect and support for
traditional institutions such as the African National Congress (ANC) led
government.

The Mayor of Moses Kotane local Municipality, councillors and officials of
Madibeng and Moses Kotane Local Municipalities accompanied MEC Yawa during the
project site visits. The purpose of the project site visits was for the MEC to
apprise himself of progress on projects being implemented by the Department of
Public Works in the Bojanala Region.
