North West MEC for Developmental Local Government, Howard Yawa, kick-starts
the provincial programme for Housing Week with a project site visit to Carousel
View Housing Project near Hammanskraal at 10h00 on Monday, 1 October 2007.
The objective of the provincial Housing Week programme is to showcase
housing delivery projects that have seen North West province being awarded the
best province in housing delivery in the 2005/06 and 2006/07 financial
years.
On Tuesday, MEC Yawa will together with the Executive Mayor of Rustenburg
Local Municipality and Impala Mines Management build a house as a symbolic
celebration of partnership in the implementation of Seraleng Integrated Housing
Project.
On Wednesday, the MEC is scheduled to address Civil Engineering students at
Taletso Further Education and Training College Mmabatho Campus.
To wrap up the programme, the MEC will on Friday, 5 October 2007, award
certificates to women contractors who have completed management and accredited
skills training in Housing Construction. The empowerment initiative is meant to
improve participation of women in housing delivery.
The theme for this year's Housing Week is "Working in partnership to build
vibrant and sustainable human settlements". The provincial focus is on
informing communities about the implementation of Breaking New Ground Housing
Plan as from 1 April 2007 in partnership with the private sector and learning
institutions.
