North West Public Works MEC, Honourable Howard Yawa, today braved wet
weather and visited three clinic building projects in the Central Region.
MEC Yawa was impressed with progress at the R5.4 million Vrischgewacht
Clinic and the R5.5 Setlagole Clinic building projects. Both projects are
expected to be completed in June and July this year respectively.
On Completion, both clinics will offer relieve to rural women, as they will
have modern and technologically advanced maternity facilities.
According to Aaron Selogate, ward councillor and Speaker of the Ratlou local
municipality, the clinic will benefit 8000 people from Setlagole, Setlhwatlhwe,
Thutlwane and surrounding farms, who used to walk 20 kilometres to receive
health services from Madibogo Health Centre.
Ms Boitshoko Seopasengwe, a nurse in Setlagole said that the clinic would
offer 24 hours advanced health care service.
After visiting the R2.6 million Itsoseng Clinic, an excited MEC Yawa said,
"We are proud of our women contractors. The Joint Venture delivered the project
two months ahead of schedule. They share government's commitment to fasttrack a
better life for all by ensuring that communities have access to quality health
services".
One of the Joint Venture partners, Ms Baratang Rakgwale said that they were
able to perform, as the technical team was supportive.
MEC Yawa further commented the community of Itsoseng for the support that
they gave the contractors. He said that the positive attitude of the people
would make it easier for government to continue its delivery programme for the
area.
The MEC said he would in a few weeks time handover the facility to the
Department of Health and also announce the contractor awarded the contract to
build a R70 million Health Centre in Itsoseng Township near Lichtenburg.
"Government is determined to improve access to services for previously
marginalised communities," said MEC Yawa.
Councillors and officials of Ratlou, Tswaing and Ditsobotla local
municipalities accompanied MEC Yawa during the project site visits. The purpose
of the Project Site visits was for the MEC to apprise himself of progress on
Clinic Building Projects being implemented by the Department of Public
Works.
