MEC Yawa to engage women in construction

North West MEC for Public Works, the Honourable Howard Yawa, and executive
managers in his department are to engage with women in construction from 08h30
to 14h00 on 4 August 2006 at the Institute of Hotel and Tourism Management
(Mafikeng Hotel School - near Mmabatho Tusk) in Mafikeng.

The dialogue convened in partnership with the North West Chapter of the
South African Women in Construction and North West Women’s Chamber is aimed at
evaluating women’s involvement and participation in the construction sector and
to highlight opportunities available for women in the construction industry
through programmes of the North West Department of Public Works.

Among issues to be discussed are a progress report on implementation of the
Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment Act and the Preferential Procurement
Framework Act, Provincial Growth and Development Strategy, benefits for women
in the Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA),
material supply, financial support and contractor incubator programmes and
requirements for Construction Industry Development Board registration.
