MEC Yawa opens new Regional Office in Bojanala

North West MEC for Public Works, Honourable Mr Howard Yawa, today urged
employees of his Department to position Public Works as the giant on whose
shoulders the people of the province should stand.

Delivering the keynote address at the opening of the new Bojanala Regional
office of the Department in Rustenburg, MEC Yawa said that the R6,1 million
building should be a site of service excellence to clients in the construction
sector and the broader communities in the Bojanala Region.

Congratulating the 145 long service award recipients for 20 to 30 years of
service to the public service, MEC Yawa attributed the accolades awarded the
Department to employee loyalty, hard work and commitment. These accolades
include among others:

* Unqualified audit reports for 2003/04 and 2004/05;
* The silver award in the 2005 Premier's Public Service Excellence Awards;
and
* The second overall most pro-active provincial government department award for
2005 received from Professional Management Review.

Thirty-four Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) beneficiaries from
Ga-Rankuwaa Brick-making and Paving Project received certificates for
accredited training received and skills acquired during the project.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, 35-year old Abram Kubu said that
skills acquired would enable them to start their own paving companies and
thereby contribute towards employment of young people. He said this would
assist reduce crime.

To the EPWP beneficiaries, MEC Yawa said, "We are encouraged by your
determination to succeed and are confident that the skills you have acquired
have prepared you for participation in the economy as skilled construction
workers, emerging contractors and entrepreneurs."
