North West Department of Public Works MEC, Mr Howard Yawa, today officially
welcomed and introduced Mr Obakeng Mongale as the new Head of Department to
senior managers of the Department.
Mr Mongale was redeployed to the Department of Public Works from the
Department of Health by Premier Edna Molewa as from 1 May 2006.His redeployment
follows the appointment of Dr Lydia Sebego as the Superintendent General for
the Department of Health.
In his maiden speech to the specially convened departmental management
meeting, Mr Mongale said for him the mandate of government remains the same,
therefore interface and convergence of programmes would remain priorities.
MEC Yawa appealed to senior managers to support Mr Mongale in ensuring that
service delivery and the trend of performance in the Department is taken to a
higher level. He said that is possible because under Mongale's leadership, the
Department of Health was awarded the Platinum Award as the Best Performing
Department in the province. MEC Yawa urged senior managers to aim for double
platinum in this year's Premier's public service excellence awards.
In last year's Premier's public service excellence award, the Department was
awarded a Gold Award for the Best Project Management Team in implementing the
R24 million Modimola Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) project and a
silver award in the best performing department category.
