The unexpected spring rain could not dampen the mood of Ipelegeng Township
residents on Tuesday as North West MEC for Public Works, Honourable Howard Yawa
delivered the newly built Reabetswe Secondary School near Schweizer-Reneke.
The delivery of the 12 class roomed school building project which constitute
the First Phase of the school building project was built at a cost of R7,4
million and includes an administration block, a computer room and thirty six
toilets. The completion of the first phase of the project brings to an end
thirty months of platooning by close to two thousand learners from Ikgomotseng
Primary and Reabetswe Secondary Schools.
In his address, MEC Yawa said apartheid infrastructure planning had denied
our people access to quality public infrastructure such as schools, health
facilities and recreational facilities .He said that in the past twelve years,
the African National Congress (ANC) led government has made great strides to
improve access to quality public education within limited resources and
constraints. He said that this has resulted in accelerated provision of school
infrastructure and more equitable distribution of resources.
Yawa commended the people of Ipelegeng for their patience and support. He
said they did not join communities that whine at everything and anything. He
said that their patience and confidence in the ANC government has paid off.
âToday you are reaping the fruits of our hard-earned democracy, hard work,
dedication and patience. In more ways than one, todayâs handover is a pledge
redeemed, a promise fulfilled, a dream come true, and indeed a mission
accomplished for the learners, educators and the community of Ipelegeng,â MEC
Yawa told the audience.
MEC Yawa called on the community to invest their time and efforts in
ensuring that the school is free from crime, vandalism and drugs. He appealed
to the community to look after the school and to ensure that its operation and
ethos reflect the values enshrined in the constitution.
He further called on the School Governing Body to ensure that the
achievements of its learners continue to improve and that the behaviour of the
educators is exemplary so that the country could share the pride of the
community in its school and the education it instils.
The school was officially opened on behalf of the MEC for Education by the
Mayor of Mamusa Local Municipality, Honourable Councillor Rantsho Gincane.
