North West MEC for Public Works, Howard Yawa today paid tribute to the late
Tshepo Tau during the handover of the R2,6 million Itsoseng Clinic to the
Department of Health in Itsoseng Township near Lichtenberg.
MEC Yawa described the late Tshepo Tau who passed away in a tragic accident
two weeks ago as an industrious, brilliant and competent consultant and
architect whose premature death robbed the construction industry of a meteoric
star.
His firm Tau Architects is responsible for three other clinic building
projects in the Bophirima region, two school building projects in the Bojanala
region, three libraries, Disaneng Nurses Home, Mafikeng Nursing College and the
new head office building of the Department of Public Works. Most of the
projects are nearing completion.
Tshepo Tau acted as a principal agent for the construction of the Itsoseng
clinic, which was constructed by two women joint venture partners and completed
two months ahead of schedule.
In handing over the clinic to North West MEC for Health, honourable Ms
Nomonde Rasmeni, MEC Yawa expressed gratitude to the Department of Health for
the continued confidence in the Department of Public Works. He also
congratulated the community of Itsoseng for the facility and for believing in
government to address inherited infrastructure backlog in their community.
After the official opening of the clinic by Premier Edna Molewa, MEC Rasmeni
and Mayor Lethoko of the Ditsobotla Municipality, MEC Yawa and the dignitaries
turned sod at the site for the construction of a R70 million health centre.
The 24-bed health centre is to provide advanced healthcare to the community
of Itsoseng and neighbouring villages of Bodibe, Verdwaal and Springbokpan. On
completion the centre will consist of among others the following
facilities:
*·A mini-theatre
*·A maternity ward with controlled access and two delivery rooms
*·Out patients department with five consulting rooms
*·Two dental units
*·Antiretroviral treatment site.
In appealing to the community to support and co-operate with the contractor
awarded the contract to build the Itsoseng Health Centre. MEC Yawa said, "Your
positive attitude will make it easier for government to continue its delivery
programme for Itsoseng. The community should be mobilised for the successful
implementation of the Project and guard against any person who might wish to
derail delivery directed to the poor."
The events were part of the North West Province's Imbizo Programme hosted by
the central district municipality and the Ditsobotla Municipality.
