North West Public Works MEC Howard Yawa says although the construction and
property industries are notorious for wheeling and dealing of opportunistic
rogues, his Department will not tolerate dishonesty among its employees in all
its forms. MEC Yawa said this during his departmental budget speech tabled in
the North West Provincial legislature on Tuesday, 16 May 2006.
MEC Yawa said that Public Works employees are expected to adhere to Code of
Good Conduct. "We are involved in tenders and contracts from small to very big
on a daily basis, therefore we need employees that are honest, of high
integrity and who are virtuous. We will therefore not tolerate fraud, theft,
misappropriation, perjury and lying among our employees."
MEC Yawa reported that the Department has dealt decisively with the
management of discipline in the department. All labour matters received during
the 2005/06 financial year were finalised.
