MEC Yawa announces departure of head of department

26 April 2006

North West MEC for Public Works, Honourable Mr Howard Yawa, today announced
and congratulated Dr Lydia Keneilwe Sebego on her appointment as the
Superintendent General for the Department of Health as from 1 May 2006.

Dr Sebego has been the Deputy Director-General (Head of Department) for the
Department of Public Works since April 2002.MEC Yawa says that her departure is
a loss to the department because under her leadership a turn-around strategy
for the department was adopted.

The implementation of the turn-around strategy saw the department register
improved performance from 34 % expenditure in 2001/02 to 98% in the 2004/05
financial years. The progressive improvement resulted with the department
receiving unqualified audit reports from the Auditor General for the 2003/04
and 2004/05 financial years.

Some of the accolades that the department attained with her at the reins
include:

* The silver award in the 2005 Premier's Public Service Excellence
Awards.
* The second Overall Most Pro-active provincial government department award for
2005 received from Professional Management Review.

MEC Yawa also announced the appointment of current Chief Financial Officer
for the department, Mr Mawethu Mtyhuda, as the Acting Head of Department.

"We wish Dr Sebego well in her new position at the Department of Health. The
legacy she has left the department is inspirational. She leaves behind a solid
leadership team that is focused on the successful implementation of the
departmental strategic plan and maintaining service excellence. I am confident
that the forward planning processes we had embarked upon would see the
department improving on its past performance," said MEC Yawa.

He appealed to employees of the department to support the Acting Head of
Department in carrying out his responsibilities.
