North West MEC for Developmental Local Government and Housing, Howard Yawa
is to highlight Political Oversight and Public Accountability to municipalities
at the South African Local Government Association (Salga) Local Government
Budget Week to be held at the Taung Tusk Hotel on Thursday, 12 July 2007.
The theme for this year's provincial annual policy conference organised by
the North West Chapter of Salga is "Maximising Financial Management Capacity
for Sustainable Service Delivery." The one-day conference to review policy
statement is to focus on financial challenges, pressures and complexities
within the local government sphere. It seeks to bring together fiscal elements
of developmental local government, and endeavour to deal with funding the
provision of municipal services.
The conference enables organised local government to engage with
municipalities so that as an organisation that represents their interests,
Salga is empowered to lobby their interests within intergovernmental fiscal
structures.
MEC Yawa's address is scheduled for 09h15.
