Government would like to clarify the confusion and incorrect reports
surrounding the resignation and departure of the National Commissioner of
Correctional Services.
The facts are as follows: Mr Mti discussed his intention to leave the public
service with the Minister of Correctional Services and members of the 2010
Inter-Ministerial Committee for no less than three months prior to the alleged
accident. His resignation letter was also received and accepted weeks prior to
the alleged accident. Therefore, government's decision to accept Mr Mti's
resignation had nothing to do with the alleged accident.
Further, whereas his resignation had been accepted, his departure enjoys the
full support of government as we are confident that he will continue to make an
important contribution to our country's development.
