Khanyile
15 November 2006
The Gauteng Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation, on behalf of
the provincial government, conveys its heartfelt condolences to the family of
South Africa's Afro pop musician Jabu Khanyile.
"The country has lost a musical genius. His pioneering presence in the music
industry will be deeply missed," said the MEC for Sport, Arts, Culture and
Recreation, Barbara Creecy.
Khanyile has made an indelible contribution to South Africa's musical
heritage. He was courageous and disciplined as an activist during the days of
apartheid as well as fighting the cancer that he eventually succumbed to.
"On behalf of the Gauteng Provincial Government our hearts are with his
family, friends and the music fraternity at large in this time of bereavement.
The African soil from which he drew his inspiration will reclaim the mortal
remains of Khanyile, but his music will be an eternal monument to his genius,"
said Creecy.
