Gauteng to host Wetland Indaba, 22 to 26 Oct

Gauteng in search for a solution for water scarcity in South
Africa

16 October 2007

In an effort to ensure the sustainable access to water and overcome water
scarcity in the country, the Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation
and Environment (GDACE) will host a Wetland Indaba at the Kempton Park Civic
Centre from 22 to 26 October. The theme for the conference is: "Wetlands for
tomorrow".

GDACE has partnered with the Department of Water and Forestry, Ekurhuleni
Metropolitan Municipality, the Rand Water Foundation, Working for Wetlands and
the South African Institute for Biodiversity. The main aim of the conference is
to ensure that water is protected through conservation and that wetlands are
rehabilitated and protected.

Among the delegates who will be exchanging ideas, sharing experiences and
taking resolutions based on researches conducted, are conservationists,
scientists, researchers, decision-makers and educators.

The research has been an effort to address the public concern about access
to water and delegates' passion for wetlands protection and rehabilitation,
which contributes to the availability of water. The research also addresses the
challenges and dynamics in the field of environment and wetlands.

The conference runs over five days and each day will have a different topic
which will be covered.
