Three central hospitals, Chris Hani Baragwanath, Johannesburg Hospital and
Helen Joseph Hospital are to be relieved from overcrowding following the
signing of a partnership agreement between the Gauteng Department of Health and
a private clinic.
Following the recent awarding of a tender to Clinix Health Group, the three
hospitals will transfer certain patients to Clinix for further care and
treatment. According to the Department of Health's Chief Director of hospital
services, Dr Nandi Diliza, patients that have been assessed by specialists at
the three central hospitals and found to be no longer in any immediate danger
although still requiring hospitalisation will be moved over to Clinix.
This means that more hospital beds will be made available for those patients
requiring specialised treatment from Johannesburg Hospital, Chris Hani
Baragwanath and Helen Joseph hospitals.
Relatives and friends of patients who have been transferred to Clinix will
be notified before they are moved and the Department of Health is appealing to
the public to ensure that they leave correct contact details with the hospital
where the patient is admitted to avoid confusion.
It is important to note that only the Gauteng Department of Health can make
these arrangements to have patients admitted at the Clinix.
