The Gauteng Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Environment (GDACE)
amended the Record of Decision (ROD) issued on 25 April 2004 in respect of the
Gautrain Rapid Rail Link project, and approved proposed variant alignments
(route changes) in three areas on 15 August 2006.
The variant alignments, which were proposed by the preferred bidder, the
Bombela Consortium, in the Sandton and Marlboro areas and by the project
applicant, the Gauteng Department of Public Transport, Roads and Works in the
Rhodesfield area, comprise:

that largely runs beneath Katherine Drive instead of beneath Strathavon
* a lower alignment from the Marlboro tunnel portal across the Jukskei River
valley beneath the N3 highway
* a raised alignment over the R21/R24 interchange between Rhodesfield Station
and Johannesburg International Airport (JIA) station
