Gauteng to brief media 16 June Celebrations

Media site visit for the 30th anniversary of 16 June
Celebrations

The Gauteng MEC for Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation, Ms Barbara Creecy,
will on Tuesday, 13 June, brief the media on plans for Friday, 16 June,
National Youth Day to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the 1976
Uprising.

A site visit will be conducted to the venues where the activities on the day
will take place. The day's activities will include a march from Morris Isaacson
High School, a wreath laying at the Hector Peterson Memorial and a mass rally
at Soccer City (FNB) to be addressed by President Thabo Mbeki.

The briefing will also provide information on final arrangements for the day
including the programme and discuss issues such as transport, pooling
arrangements, media centre facilities and accreditation.

The MEC will conduct the briefing together with representatives from the
National Youth Commission (NYC), the City of Johannesburg, national government
and the 16 June Foundation.
