Gauteng Agriculture, Conservation and Environment to launch Marabastad
litter-free campaign, 26 Oct

Government rolls out war on litter and grime in Tshwane

25 October 2007

The ambitious plan to keep Gauteng free of litter and grime will be taken to
another stage in Tshwane on Friday, 26 October 2007.

The launch of the Marabastad litter-free chapter is part of a series of
regionally based litter-free campaigns initiated by the Gauteng Department of
Agriculture, Conservation and Environment. This launch entails practical
participation by senior government leaders and community organisations in
litter-free projects. It also entails mobilising for establishment of community
forums that continues to keep the area litter-free long after the launch. The
campaign also aims at raising awareness on the negative impact of grime on
people's health and well-being.

The launch on Friday is a joint effort between the department and the Public
Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO) bus company and vindicates the
department's tactical approach of promoting private sector involvement on
projects and campaign that directly benefit our communities.

Applauding the involvement of both PUTCO and Metrorail in the Litter-Free
Campaign, the Gauteng MEC for Agriculture, Conservation and Environment,
Khabisi Mosunkutu, said: "We believe that the municipalities, corporate sector
and the media should play an important part in getting the Litter-Free Campaign
message to the people, most importantly, creating awareness, educating and
provide facilities that will help communities to keep their place litter
free."
