The MEC for Agriculture, Mr Gugile Nkwinti, will be launching four
irrigation schemes in Ngqushwa, at Gcinisa North Village Irrigation Project in
the Amathole District on the 15 May 2006 at 09h00. The rehabilitation of these
projects is to ensure that there is maximum food security thereby alleviating
poverty. The irrigation projects that will be launched are Zalaze, Qamdobowa,
Gcinisa and Khanya.
These projects are producing vegetable and crops depending on the seasons of
the year.
About R500 000 has been spent on these projects during January this year and
this launch will also be the review of the progress. The site visits will take
place between 09h00 and 09h30 and after that the launch will continue.
A number of people will benefit from these projects. The beneficiaries of
these projects are also hands-on in terms of producing the crops.
