G Nkwinti to hand over equipment to Pitseng farmers, 23 Feb

Nkwinti to hand over infrastructure worth R12,6 million to
communities at Ukhahlamba

21 February 2006

MEC Nkwinti will hand over storage facilities and fencing equipment to
Pitseng farmers in the Mount Fletcher area in Ukhahlamba District Municipality.
This event will take place at Pitseng farm at Elundini Municipality on 23
February 2006, commencing at 10h00. This has been as a result of the Department
of Agriculture allocating an amount of R4,8 million in 2004/05 and a further
R7,8 million in 2005/06 funded under a programme called Comprehensive
Agricultural Support Programme (CASP).

CASP is a programme that was initiated by the national Department of
Agriculture, whose primary aim is to make provision for agricultural support to
targeted beneficiaries of the land reform programme. When this amount was
allocated to the Department in the Ukhahlamba District Municipality, the
officials looked at the needs of the farmers of that region and allocated the
funds accordingly.

The needs were fencing of the land, construction and renovations of dipping
tanks and shearing sheds. They also allocated funds for installation of
irrigation equipment, construction of dairy parlours and storage facilities for
maize. Fifteen thousand people in the whole Ukhahlamba District Municipality
will benefit from this programme.
