(CDWs) National Conference

Public Service and Administration Minister, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi
will host the Community Development Workers (CDW) National Conference on
Monday, 11 June 2007 and Tuesday, 12 June 2007, at the Gallagher Estate,
Midrand.
The CDW programme co-ordinated by the Ministry for Public Service and
Administration in collaboration with the Department of Provincial and Local
Government was established in 2003, underpinned by a commitment made by the
government to build a partnership with the people of South Africa, as part of a
national effort to build a better life for all.
The conference will be attended by about 500 delegates from national and
provincial departments, municipalities, unions, churches and family support
organisations.
Some significant issues to be discussed include:
1. Strengthening the integration and co-ordination of the CDW Programme
across government departments, agencies and different spheres of
government.
2. Stakeholder relations, role of CDWs in the development agenda of the
state.
3. Implementing an effective Monitoring and Evaluation system and a
Communication strategy.
4. The role of the CDWs in local economic development and poverty alleviation
programmes.
Minister Fraser-Moleketi will on Monday, 11 June 2007 make a keynote
address, officially opening the conference.
