The second National Consultative Conference of the African Peer Review
Mechanism (APRM) starts tomorrow, 4 May 2006, at the Walter Sisulu Square of
dedication at Kliptown, Johannesburg.
Led by Public Service and Administration Minister Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi
as the Focal Point and Chairperson of the APRM Governing Council, the
conference will deliberate on South Africa's Country Self-Assessment Report and
Programme of Action.
The two-day conference will attract representatives from sectors such as
government, civil society, business, women, youth, etc. The primary purpose of
the APRM is to foster the adoption of policies, standards and practices that
lead to political stability, high economic growth, sustainable development and
accelerated sub regional and continental economic integration through sharing
of experiences and reinforcement of successful and best practices, including
identifying deficiencies and assessing the needs for capacity building.
