The first Musicon Solo Singing Competition of the Department of Arts and
Culture will be held on 4 and 5 October 2007. The purpose of this competition
is to promote solo singing and to discover new talent. The competition is
divided into five categories which cover age groups from seven years old to
adults. The prize money for each division ranges from R200 to R1 000. There
will also be trophies and medals as well as certificates that will be
awarded.
Individuals who are interested in taking part in this competition should
contact Mr Thaba Makhebesela at 076 243 3594 regarding the prescribed as well
as choice music. Ms Anna-Marie Venter will be available at 083 417 3565 as
accompanist. Prior practice with accompanist is essential. Candidates may make
use of their own accompanist.
The closing date for this competition is 28 August 2007. No late entries
will be accepted. Enrolment fee is R50 per person. Roster for participation
will be available at the Musicon from 21 September 2007. The competition will
be held in the Musicon hall in Bloemfontein and all are welcome.
