The Free State Provincial Government in partnership with the Progressive
Womenâs Movement is to embark on a series of activities and campaigns in
celebration of the Womenâs month in August.
The celebrations will start with the launch of the Womenâs month programme
in a form of a Womenâs Assembly that will be addressed by Minister Nosiviwe
Mapisa-Nqakula as the President of the ANC Womenâs League as follows:

Venue: Loubscher Park - Out of town on the way to Brentpark Industrial Site -
(Kroonstad)
The Womenâs Assembly will be preceded by a visit to the Kroonstad Prison at
09h00. The visit will involve women veterans who were incarcerated at this
prison during the 1956 marches as well as prison warders. The underlying theme
for the visit is unity and reconciliation.
Cardinal to the Womenâs Month is also the National Womenâs Conference that
will be hosted by the Free State Province from 5 to 8 of August 2006. This high
profile Womenâs Conference will involve both national and international
dignitaries such as President Ellen Johnson of Liberia, Deputy President
Phumzile Mlambo-Nquka, Minister Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Minister Nosiviwe
Maphisa-Nqakula, Honourable Gertrude Mongela, Speaker of the Pan African
Parliament, Mrs Hillary Clinton, Chairperson of Vital Voices, Ms Marlene De
Haas, Secretary General of the Socialist International Women and many
others.
The National Womenâs Conference will officially begin with a dinner and
cultural evening as follows

These activities will be taking place in the context of the 50th anniversary
of the 1956 womenâs anti-pass march.
