The Free State Department of Health celebrated service excellence for the
sixth year by presenting the Philani Service Excellence awards. This year saw
the recognition and awarding of prizes in 12 categories

Prize money to the value of R529 000 were handed to the winners in various
categories. This money will be utilised in the next financial year by those who
have won in these various categories and the basic thrust is to improve the
morale of personnel.

* The prize money is to be used at the institution or office where the
winning team is based to bring about improvements that will have an impact on
the quality of service.
* It can be used to improve the facility, to buy equipment or for operational
expenses which are not recurrent in nature.
* The head of the institution or office should consider the improvement to be
appropriate.
* The winning facilities will be required to submit a full business plan
detailing how they intend spending the money.
* The money must be utilised during the 2007/08 financial year

The results of the Philani awards 2006 are as follows:

Mobile clinics
1. Trompsburg Mobile Clinic, Xhariep: R12 500
2. Bothaville Mobile clinic, Lejweleputswa: R7 500
3. Bultfontein Mobile Clinic, Lejweleputswa: R5 000

Fixed clinics
1. Harrismith Town Clinic: R15 000
2. Thembalethu Clinic, Xhariep: R9 000
3. Seeisoville Clinic, Fezile Dabi: R6 000

Community Health Centres (CHCs)
1. Mamelo CHC, Thabo Mofutsanyana: R20 000
2. Lesedi CHC, Fezile Dabi: R12 000
3. Kganya CHC, Fezile Dabi: R8 000

District hospitals
1. Phekolong District Hospital, Bethlehem: R25 000
2. Metsimaholo District Hospital, Sasolburg: R15 000
3. Embekweni District Hospital, Zastron: R10 000

Regional hospitals
1. Dihlabeng Regional Hospital, Bethlehem: R75 000
