Free State Health to host Women's Day celebration

29 August 2007

To enhance the principle of the Department of Health "Emancipation
Empowerment and Equality and Eradication of Poverty Now," the Department of
Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pelonomi Hospital, has decided to adopt a primary
school from the informal settlement and donate items e.g. food parcels,
clothes, soap, shoe polish etc. to it. They will adopt ten kids from this
school and buy uniform and school bags for them from the money that will be
contributed by staff for the year 2008.

To empower the school, the personnel from the Department of Obstetrics and
Gynaecology will donate seeds such as carrots, beetroot, spinach, beans etc.
for them to make small gardens and in this way provide food for them and their
families.

Whilst doing all this we will be giving health talks on HIV and AIDS,
teenage pregnancy, and other relevant information. Regular follow ups will be
done to ensure implementation and sustainability.
