The Free State Department of Education under the leadership of the MEC
Mokitlane will be inaugurating the new Motheo Further Education and Training
(FET) College's council. This is according to the new Act, No 16 of 2006 which
gives the colleges the power to its entire staff except for the principals and
their deputies. This Act must be seen as part of government's plan to make FET
colleges sector responsive to the Human Resource Development Strategy and
Macro-Economic Development as contemplated in Accelerated and Shared Growth
Initiative for South Africa (AsgiSA) through Joint Initiative for Priority
Skills Acquisition (Jipsa).
With the inauguration ceremony of this new council the department intends to
make it aware about the responsibilities that are expected from FET colleges
under their governance. It is in this regard that the department plays its
essential role to ensure that FET colleges are re-positioned to compete
favourably with their private FET counterparts.
