Free State Agriculture on introduction of animal mobile clinics

Animal disease control

19 June 2006

Animal disease control is very important to ensure that animal production
and animal produce in the Free State and the country in general are safe for
local and international markets. Proper control of animal diseases will also
increase animal production and improve the quality of animal produce in the
province.

In bringing Veterinary Services much closer to the rural communities in the
Free State Province, and further boost the local economies of rural
communities, the Department of Agriculture purchased five fully equipped Animal
Mobile Clinics to enable its officers to easily reach rural communities in the
province.

These clinics are the first of their kind in the province and they were
officially introduced to the communities by the Free State Premier Ms B
Marshoff and the MEC for Agriculture Mr MC Mokitlane on 19 June 2006 at Koos
Manyaka Trust/Farm at Sannaspos near Bloemfontein. Mr Manyaka, together with
his two brothers, are beneficiaries of the Land Redistribution for Agricultural
Development Programme (LRAD), who also benefited from the Free State Department
of Agriculture’s Livestock Improvement Project where the Department donated
animals of high quality to emerging farmers. Koos Manyaka Trust, of 228 ha
received 23 Nguni animals from the Department.
