Statement on the death of a South African in Iraq

Pretoria: The South African diplomatic mission in Kuwait today, Thursday, 2
November, confirmed to the Department of Foreign Affairs the death of a South
African, Morne Pieterse, killed in Basra, Iraq on Monday, 30 October 2006.
The diplomatic mission is currently in liaison with the employers of the
deceased with a view to assisting to return the mortal remains of Mr Pieterse
back to South Africa. The family has been advised accordingly.
The death of Mr Pieterse brings to 17 the number of South Africans confirmed
killed in Iraq, with a further eight reported missing and presumed dead.
