Department of Foreign Affairs to co-host the sixth Latin
American Soccer Tournament at University of Pretoria

The Department of Foreign Affairs has been invited to co-host the sixth
annual Latin American and Caribbean Soccer Tournament for boys under the age of
13 on Saturday, 2 September 2006, at 09h00, Groenkloof Campus, University of
Pretoria.

In an effort to cement relations with developing countries in the South and
inculcating the love of sport and recreation to our youth the Department of
Foreign Affairs has contributed soccer kits worth R30 000 to the participating
teams.

The tournament, which has been running for six years, consists of nine teams
representing Latin American and Caribbean countries and a South African team.
The Latin American teams represented in the tournament will be the following:
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and
Venezuela.

The South African team will be drawn from Eersterust, Rietondale,
Winterveld, Attridgeville, Mabopane, Arcadia, Garankua, Soshanguve and
Soweto.

The Director-General of Foreign Affairs, Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba has given his
blessings to the tournament. He urged the South African youth to be our
ambassadors at the tournament by showcasing our soccer talent and hospitality
as a precursor to the 2010 Fifa World Cup, which South Africa will have the
privilege of hosting.
