African Union meeting on Comoros begins in Cape Town

South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, today Tuesday, 19
June 2007, officially opened proceedings of the African Union (AU) Countries of
Region charged with the responsibility of overseeing developments in the
Comoros. The meeting will discuss the current political situation in the
Comoros including preparations for elections in the Island.

The meeting at La Vendome Hotel in Seapoint is attended by Foreign Ministers
of Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar who for
the past ten years have been overseeing the transition to democracy in Comoros.
For its part Comoros is represented by its Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister.

The Foreign Ministers of the Region under the leadership of Minister
Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to make recommendations to the forthcoming
meeting of the AU Heads of State and Government scheduled for Accra, Ghana in
July this year.
