Kwamhlanga The Mpumalanga Department of Roads and Transport MEC, Mr Fish
Mahlalela, will formally introduce 32 High Performance Vehicles at the
notorious Moloto road on 17 November 2006 as part of the department's Festive
Season Arrive Alive Campaign.
The introduction of these vehicles comes at a time when the Department of
Roads and Transport approaches the December Festive Season Arrive Alive
Campaign, where a staggering number of road accidents are normally experienced.
The vehicles will therefore serve as vital tools that will ensure that the
department highly increases visibility on roads and minimises accidents on
provincial roads.
Part of the vehicles, five have been donated by the bus company, Public
Utility Transport Corporation (PUTCO), and the rest have been procured by the
department. The vehicles will also beef up visible policing on the notorious
Moloto road where more fatalities occur in the province.
During the event, the department will also launch the project called
Zikhakhazise Nge Mpumalanga. The project is aimed at encouraging vehicle owners
residing in Nkangala Region with cars registered in Gauteng Province to
register their cars in Mpumalanga.
The revenue received by the department will be maximised if people register
their cars in the province. An increased number of cars registered in the
province will increase the provincial budget for roads maintenance and
upgrading.
The media is invited to be part of the event that will take place as
