Pretoria: Minister of Public Enterprises, Alec Erwin and Alexkor signed a
momentous deal with the Richtersveld Community (RVC) today. After almost ten
years of extensive negotiations and consultations, the government and the RVC
signed a settlement agreement in respect of the land restitution claim. This
unlocks any unnecessary delays in restoring rights and the payment of
compensation to the community.
This will now enable the community to exercise their rights as landowners
with respect to the future land mining activities of the area. Further details
will be provided at a later stage after the Community Property Association
leaders have reported to the community and certain formal processes have been
completed within government.
