Electoral Commission on municipal ward by-elections results

Results of by-elections held on 28 March 2007

The Deputy Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission
(IEC), Mr Mosotho Moepya, said in Pretoria today, 2 April that the African
National Congress won six of the seven wards contested in the municipal ward
by-elections of 28 March 2007. The remaining ward went to the Inkatha Freedom
Party. Voter turnout varied between 56,59% and 14,74% with an average of
28,44%.

The new African National Congress councillors are:

* Moramang Pieter Mafata in Ward 6 in Kopanong (Trompsburg)�FS162, Free
State
* Mabuti Bennet Bikitsha in Ward 23 in Emfuleni (Vereeniging)�GT421,
Gauteng
* Nkosinathi Emmanuel Madonsela in Ward 16, uMhlathuze (Richards Bay)�KZN282,
KwaZulu-Natal
* Selby Gusteve Mkhwanazi in Ward 13, Emalahleni (Witbank)�MP312,
Mpumalanga
* Smart John Sambo in Ward 21 in Bushbuckridge (Bushbuckridge)�MP325, also in
Mpumalanga
* Lucas Moepi Mothibedi in Ward 3 in Matlosana (Klerksdorp)�NW403, North
West

* Ndukisebandla Petros Mavuso of the Inkatha Freedom Party is the new
councillor for Ward 6 in UPhongolo (Pongola)�KZN262, KwaZulu-Natal.
