The Chief Electoral Officer of the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC),
Advocate Pansy Tlakula, said today (5 February) that municipal ward
by-elections will take place in Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, North
West and the Western Cape on Wednesday, 7 February 2007.
A total of 28 candidates, representing 11 political parties and of whom
three are independent candidates, will contest eight vacant wards.
In the Eastern Cape, Ward 26 in Mbhashe [Idutywa} � EC121 is contested by
Noluthando Gloria Langeni of the African Christian Democratic Party, Nobuntu
Mtsi of the African National Congress, Masikizi Vanya of the Pan Africanist
Congress of Azania and Lungile Goodman Maseti of the United Democratic
Movement.
In KwaZulu-Natal, Ward 8 in uMngeni [Howick] � KZN222 will be contested by
Lucky Chester Hlela of the African Christian Democratic Party, McBright Bongani
Sibiya of the African National Congress and Sibusiso Patrick Ngubane of the
Inkatha Freedom Party.
In Limpopo, the candidates for Ward 17 in Aganang [Moletji/Matlala] � LIM352
are Tukidi Abia Nkgoeng of the African Christian Democratic Party, Nare Elias
Mashilo of the African National Congress and Koena Moses Mashala of the United
Independent Front.
Three by-elections will take place in North West:
Ward 18 in Rustenburg [Rustenburg] � NW373 will be contested by Abinar Benny
Segaole of the African Christian Democratic Party, Baitlotli Magdeline Mlangeni
of the African National Congress, Moitlamo Ellen Ester Maphunye of the
Independent Democrats and Monnapula Raymond Segami of the United Christian
Democratic Party.
Ward 3 in Lekwa-Teemane [Christiana] � NW396 will be contested by Rudolf
Ronnie Hottie, an independent candidate, Mandla Isaac Mabala of the African
National Congress and Kagisho Goodwin Itebogeng of the United Christian
Democratic Party while Ward 6 also in Lekwa-Teemane [Christiana] � NW396 which
will be contested by Moipone Motladiile Makame, an independent candidate,
Motlalepula Angeline Otola of the African National Congress, Daniel Jacobus
Muller of the Christiana Belasting Betalers Vereniging and Puleng Lorraine
Tukula of the United Christian Democratic Party.
In the Western Cape two by-elections will take place:
Ward 74 in CPT � City of Cape Town [Cape Town] will be contested by George
Zilindile Banjwa of the African National Congress, Margaretha Haywood of the
Democratic Alliance and Goodman Mthetheleli Ngwangwa of the United Democratic
Movement, and Ward 1 in Beaufort West [Beaufort West] � WC053 will be contested
by Gilliam Johannes Vermeulen, an independent candidate, Mathilda Susanna van
Niekerk of the African National Congress, Sarika Nortje of the Democratic
Alliance and Dennis Jacobus Bothma of the Independent Civic Organisation of
South Africa.
Voting stations will be open from 07h00 to 21h00. A total of 45 204 voters
are registered in the eight wards (39 voting districts) where by-elections will
be taking place.
