20 April 2007
The United Nations declared 23 to 29 April 2007 the first Global Road Safety
Week. The Week, which will focus on young road users, is a historic opportunity
to raise awareness on the issue of road traffic injuries to a higher level.
During the week, it is expected that hundreds of Road Safety initiatives
"local, national and regional" will take place around the country, organised by
provinces, road safety agencies, and other organisations working for safer
roads. It is hoped that the events of the week will serve as launching points
for new and effective road safety initiatives in the years ahead.
The MEC for Safety, Liaison, Roads and Transport cordially invites you to
the first launch of the Global Road Safety Week. The launch will take place on
Tuesday the 24 of April 2007 at Sisa Dukashe Stadium in Mdantsane at 10h00. On
this day, the MEC Honourable T Mhlahlo will also introduce and welcome 100 Road
Safety Ambassadors who will play a fundamental role in terms of assisting with
road safety initiatives in the province.
