Eastern Cape Roads and Transport on e-NATIS system

electronic National Traffic Information System (e-NATIS) system
takes off in the Eastern Cape

17 April 2007

The newly-introduced electronic National Traffic Information System
(e-Natis) System for vehicle registration and driver licences has taken off in
full swing in the Eastern Cape province today.

Despite unforeseen logistical and technical challenges, the province managed
to make a significant number of transactions. The Nelson Mandela Metropole
alone made 4 500 transactions. The Port Elizabeth Driver's Licence Testing
Centre (DLTC) managed to process 1 580 transactions.

The King Williams Town DLTC did 726 transactions, Mthatha 673, East London
449, Gonubie 625 and Queenstown 517. These figures demonstrate that the Eastern
Cape performed well and we will continue to work with our national counterparts
in analysing, optimising and customising the system to ensure that by Friday,
at least, the system runs smoothly.
