Once again, the Eastern Cape Department of Health has added more value in
the senior management level by appointing Mrs Tabisa Majaja as the Project
Manager Audit Intervention.

Originating from Mt Frere, Mrs Majaja matriculated at the Qumbu Village High
School and went to the University of Transkei where she obtained her Bachelor
of Commerce (BComm) Degree. She is also working on her certificate in Cost and
Management Accounting. Majaja has a wealth of experience spanning 25 years, 18
of which were in the private sector and the remainder in the Public sector. She
has worked in a corporate financial environment as well as consulting. She
worked amongst other private companies for Lever Brothers, National Sorghum
Breweries, Accenture and KPMG.

During her time as Chief Financial Officer in the Gauteng Department of
Health, she had many responsibilities, which among others included providing of
leadership and strategic advice in the financial management thus ensuring
getting unqualified audit report for that department, ensuring effective and
efficient management of expenditure and commitments, revenue collection,
assets, liabilities and cash flows.

Among her achievements while with the Gauteng Department of Health, Majaja
managed to build and train a solid team, developed systems, procedures and
guidelines and established a new directorate that focused on implementing
internal control and improving control environment.

Working with her team, Mrs Majaja is determined to turn around the audit
opinion of the Eastern Cape Department of Health. Mrs Majaja mentioned that for
the past 10 years the department has been getting disclaimer and adverse
opinions from the Auditor General.

"Ten years is a long time, there is an urgent need to turn the situation
around, the aim of the Audit Intervention project is to ensure that the
department gets an unqualified audit opinion," she said. She mentioned that the
team that is put together will work hard to turn around the audit opinion of
the Eastern Cape Department of Health.

In concluding, Mrs Majaja urged all staff in the department to support the
Audit Intervention initiative. "I know that this is not the first time the
department embarked on a similar project, I believe if everyone contributes and
makes a difference in the area of responsibility, this department will see
improvement," Majaja said.
