Unregistered traditional surgeon Mtshiyelwa Mtshayina Ndoda, 55, who
allegedly illegally circumcised more than 290 boys between June last year and
February this year, appeared briefly in the Libode Magistrate's Court, 24 April
2007.
Ndoda had been expected to apply for bail but indicated to the court that he
had hired his own attorney, who did not arrive. The bail application was
postponed to 8 May.
He was arrested on 6 April after evading police for months. Under the
Eastern Cape's circumcision law, no-one is allowed to carry out circumcisions
unless he is registered as a traditional surgeon.
