Siyanda Manana, born and bred in Port Elizabeth 40 years ago has been
appointed as the new Director of Communications for the Eastern Cape Department
of Health with effect from 1 September 2007.
His work experience commenced with teaching in Grahamstown, Capital
Development Manager at Rhodes University and at Telkom South Africa as a
Specialist: Stakeholder Management in Telkom South Africa's Regulatory and
Public Policy Division.
Manana has travelled extensively in countries like Nigeria, Cameroon,
Zambia, and Zimbabwe and was part of the Telkom Africa Team that was looking at
the expansion of Telkom into the African continent.
Whilst at Telkom South Africa, he also played a major role in the
introduction of sub-contractors in communities and ensured that a conducive
environment was maintained for the contractors to deliver on company deadlines.
Working as a Capital Development Manager at Rhodes meant responsibility for
fundraising for the institution in the area of outreach programmes,
infrastructure development, general funds, bursaries and editing the bulletin.
He sees himself adding value by strategically directing the Health Department
in sharing success stories amongst staff and the outside world.
He has also been a member of three organisations namely: the Black
Management Forum, Communications Workers Union and the South African Democratic
Teachers Union.
