The Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Ms Elizabeth Thabethe will
officially open the One of a Kind Trade Show at the Gallagher Estate in Midrand
on 10 August 2006 at 16:00. The media is invited to attend.
One of a Kind is South Africaâs premier individually crafted and
contemporary applied arts trade show. Held alongside the top décor design show,
Decorex Johannesburg, this business-to-business trade show creates a platform
to showcase, expose and to market the best South Africa has to offer in the
designer craft industry. The trade show takes place from 10 to 13 August 2006
during which exhibitors will be showcasing their crafts.
Launched in 2004 as a public private partnership between the Department of
Trade and Industry (the dti), Tourism Enterprise Programme (TEP), Johannesburg
Tourism Company, and Thebe Exhibitions, One of a Kind attracts craft producers,
contemporary artists, owners of craft businesses and craft marketing agents
from all over South Africa. It provides them with the environment in which to
market and showcase the best of their designer home-ware, décor items,
corporate gifts, jewellery, curios or fashion accessories to the market.
The show aims at creating an enabling and supportive environment through
which the craft producers are able to continually grow and develop their
business. There is extensive pre and post show training, which includes design,
product development, costing, packaging and branding and quality assurance.
The show promotes sustainable development by encouraging and facilitating
transactions between small, medium and micro enterprises(SMMEs) and corporate
business. In addition to enhancing dynamic growth in the country, One of a Kind
offers an opportunity to attract international investors to South Africa
through the many international buyers visiting the show. The show will further
increase market access opportunities for the exportation of South African
up-market crafts, arts and designer wares.
