E Rasool to launch pre-school teacher learnership, 11 Aug

Premier launches learnership for 900 pre-school teachers

10 August 2006

Western Cape Premier Ebrahim Rasool will tomorrow launch the Provincial
Government's learnership programme for pre-school teachers, which is part of
the Siyabulela Deliverables Campaign initiated by the Premier.

The event takes place on Friday, 11 August at the College of Cape Town, cnr
Longmarket and Buitenkant Streets (behind the Drill Hall), Cape Town, at 13h30
for 14h00.

The learnership programme will contribute significantly to the national
government's Expanded Public Works Programme, by building capacity and
opportunities for employment in the Early Childhood Development (ECD) sector.
MECs Cameron Dugmore (Education) and Koleka Mqulwana (Social Development) are
managing the programme jointly.

Picture opportunity: IMG will set up a demonstration pre-school class at the
venue, where a representative group of learners will draw pictures of the
houses they live in, altogether, the pictures will represent a community. We
would like the Premier to stop by on his way into the hall, and draw a picture
of his house, with the kids looking on.

Proceedings will include a video of cute kids and their teachers introducing
themselves, to give an idea of what exactly we are working with. Essentially,
the kids are our most important clients and the teachers are our most important
resource.
