E Pahad to host Budget Vote Imbizo, 15 May

Government Communications Budget Vote Imbizo

11 May 2007

Dr Essop Pahad, the Minister in The Presidency and responsible for
Government Communications (GCIS), will be hosting an Imbizo session with the
community members of Mitchell's Plain and more specifically community members
of Lentegeur.

The Imbizo forms part of the Minister's Budget Vote speech that will be
delivered the same day in Parliament. It will also serve as a follow-up address
to the community, based on the recent National Imbizo Focus Week session that
was held in April in Mitchell's Plain.

The core mandate of GCIS is to meet the communication and information needs
of Government and the public. Government's mandate requires that communication
should expand access to opportunities and help the people of South Africa to
empower themselves.

Therefore, public interaction, through Imbizo, is an essential contribution
to the participative and people-centred democracy that government is
building.
