Premier Edna Molewa has expressed shock and grief at the sudden passing of
Mrs Adelaide Tambo, affectionately called Mma Tambo. Mrs Tambo reportedly
collapsed at her home last night in Johannesburg.
Premier Molewa said the Tambo family and indeed South Africa, has lost a
soldier and mother who had dedicated her life to the liberation of the people
of this country. A stalwart politician and past Treasurer General of the
African National Congress (ANC) Women's League, Mrs Tambo has left a legacy in
the politics of women in the country. Her humble and loving nature has rubbed
off on those she always worked with to continue the spirit of comradeship,"
continued Molewa.
"I am truly saddened at this great loss. Mrs Tambo was a remarkable lady and
a mother whose wisdom and sense of selflessness one would feel obliged to
emulate. You sensed her aura whenever she entered a room."
"From me and my family, the North West Provincial Government and the people
of North West province, we assure the Tambo family we shall pray that God give
them strength to wipe away their tears as they celebrate Mama Tambo's eventful
and colourful life."
