E Molewa on Public Service Excellence Awards

Premier's message for the 2006 Public Service Excellence
Awards

7 December 2006

In our quest for Service Delivery for a Better Life, a new Public Servant
has emerged in the North West province. It is a worker dedicated at all costs
to service delivery and who embodies our new ethos and principles of Batho
Pele, putting the interests of citizens of our province first.

The Premier's Public Service Excellence Awards recognise and reward this
breed of a Public Servant. Through these awards, we hope that more and more of
our members of the Public Service are motivated to go beyond the call of duty
in the execution of their responsibilities.

Like last year, there has been an overwhelming response to the awards and
the entries have been of an extremely high standard, which shows that these
awards continue to leap from stature to stature.

As we congratulate all the ultimate award recipients of this year's
Premier's Public Service Excellence Awards, I would also like to say with pride
that each finalist is an exemplary public servant and being selected as a
finalist is in itself very significant and a show of confidence by our
government of the value each of the finalists continue to add in our quest for
service excellence for a better life.

As we could never award individuals, teams or departments in abstract, we
have had to satisfy ourselves that all the finalists have done exceedingly well
to enhance Government's Programme of Action and thus improve the quality of
life of the citizens of North West.

After a very meticulous process that the Office of the Premier and partners
has been involved in choosing the best candidates on which to confer the
awards, the true crowning moment will arrive on the night of Thursday, 14
December 2006 at Sun City.

I am convinced that the exemplary achievements of all the finalists and the
award winners will help the province stem the tide of unemployment, poverty and
underdevelopment.

This will be made possible sooner than later if we continue to honour and
reward this new breed of a Public Servant. Today we are doing precisely that.
Congratulations to all the finalists. You have done our province proud.
