The Platinum Award, the highest accolade in North West province was scooped
by the provincial Department of Finance at Sun City last night.
The department won for its focused management of public finances, quality
spending of scarce resources, improving the quality of financial management and
reporting for departments in order to attain unqualified audit opinion.
The annual Premier Public Service Excellence Awards recognise and reward
outstanding service delivery by government departments and state owned
enterprises.
Last year's winner, the Department of Health, got silver, while the Office
of the Premier held on to the gold award it won last year. Three projects
namely Employee Wellness, Executive Committee Support and Media Liaison ensured
the Office of the Premier retains its position amid stiff competition from
other projects.
Premier Edna Molewa, wearing a scarlet red ensemble and a radiant smile,
told guests that in the quest to improve the quality of life of all people,
there was a need to consciously work towards moulding a new Public Servant in
the North West province.
"This is a true worker that is dedicated at all costs to service delivery
and who embodies our new ethos and principles of Batho Pele, putting the
interests of citizens of our province first," she said.
Premier Molewa also bid farewell to the Director-General Dr Manana
Bakane-Tuoane whose contract ends early next year. Dr Bakane�Tuoane, looking
elegant in an off the shoulder designer dress, definitely looked the part as
eyes were also on her.
She received accolades from various speakers including former Premier Popo
Molefe, who described her as a disciplined disciplinarian and a highly
productive cadre of service delivery. Dr Bakane Tuoane will join Emfuleni Local
Municipality.
