Your best government service delivery point stands a chance to be nominated
for the annual Premier's Public Service Award if you call: 0800 205 236, by the
end of Friday next week, 17 November 2006, to enter your favourite service
point.
It is almost a year since the last Premier's Public Service Excellence
Awards held here in Mafikeng. It was a colourful event where the Provincial
Department of Health walked away with the Platinum Award; the highest accolade
in this often highly contested prestigious awards.
The time is ripe once more for the people of the province to select a
service point of their choice which they deem has served them with diligence
and has upheld government's Batho Pele Principles.
As a service provider government has under its employ personnel who should
serve the people who have given it the mandate to better their lives.
There are various institutions of government that on a daily basis offer
services to the people in an endeavour to walk with them in their daily
lives.
It is on this premise that the Premier's Public Excellence Awards were
introduced to show appreciation to those cadres of service delivery who in a
dignified manner, carry out the much needed services.
"As government we know and understand our people as partners in building a
democratic and prosperous South Africa. We must never lose sight of that," said
Premier Edna Molewa.
"It is my duty therefore to appeal to our communities to assist us
government in making the right choice in rewarding service delivery points and
departments that go the extra mile to ensure government's mandate is carried
out. Let it be that a deserving winner is applauded by all as they would have
achieved by popular choice," she added.
This year the awards will be held at Sun City on 14 December 2006. The
Director-General, Dr Manana Bakane-Tuoane, says to improve on the systems used
to nominate a service point or department, a hotline to enhance accessibility
for the public to nominate is available. The number is 0800 205 236.
